Resorts World Genting, as part of Genting Malaysia Berhad (GENM), has its home in the beautiful township of Gohtong Jaya named after the late Tan Sri Dato' Seri (Dr) Lim Goh Tong, the Founder of Genting Group.
As such, the local community, which we care for, is of extreme importance to GENM. To give back, GENM is proud to be on a joint mission with the government to improve the Genting Highlands community and its neighbouring areas positively.
On 3 October, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gohtong Jaya Fire and Rescue Station and Quarters, Pahang was held at Genting Xintiandi Sales Gallery, Genting Highlands. The construction of this Fire and Rescue Station not only delivers critical safety infrastructure but also underscores our commitment to sustainable development in this area.
Expanding social infrastructure, housing, public amenities, and tourism facilities—including hotels, theme parks, and commercial centres—inevitably increases the fire safety risk in this area. The construction of this new fire station will ensure a quicker and more effective response in the event of fire or other emergencies.
The station, to be built on a 0.8-hectare site, will be equipped with 40 units of staff quarters, a multipurpose hall and a prayer hall. It is expected to take 24 months to complete. This initiative will not only provide a vital infrastructure but more importantly, it symbolizes GENM's commitment to sustainable development in the Gohtong Jaya area.
As reported by FMT, there are currently 27 fire and rescue stations in Pahang and with the additional one at Gohtong Jaya, they can help the department achieve a response time of less than 10 minutes.
This initiative is part of our ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at making a positive impact on the community. YB Tn. Nga Kor Ming, Housing and Local Government Minister said the project was approved in 2021, under the 12th Malaysia Plan and is estimated to cost RM68.3 million, with the government allocating RM39 million and the remaining to be borne by GENM under our CSR initiative.
The event was officiated by YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming and attended by YBhg. Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay – Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive GENM, Dato’ Sri Lee Choong Yan - Group President and Executive Director, Dato’ Indera Lim Keong Hui – Deputy Chief Executive and Executive Director GENM, Datuk Wira M Noor Azman bin Taib - Secretary General of Housing and Local Government, and Dato’ Ts. Nor Hisham bin Mohammad - Director General of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department.
