Malaysia’s longest-running and highest-rated Chinese singing competition, the Astro Classic Golden Melody Singing Competition, is celebrating its grand 25th anniversary!

Now in its 25th year, the competition continues to uphold its mission of discovering singing talents aged 35 and above. After months of intense competition, the Top 8 finalists have successfully stood out and will take the stage at the Grand Final to vie for the championship title.

The Top 8 finalists are:
Senior Category: James (46, Kelantan), Suzan (48, Penang), Christine (48, Perak), Blue (47, Johor)

Junior Category: Ar C (39, Selangor), Alex (36, Perak), Winli (40, Penang), Catherine (35, Penang)

They will go all-out on October 4, singing their hearts out for the ultimate glory.

The Astro Classic Golden Melody Singing Competition 2025 will be hosted by Gan Jiang Han, Vivienne Oon, and Darren Ch'ng. The star-studded judging panel includes celebrity judge Nancy Sit and resident judge Yenz, joined by Malaysia’s seasoned singer Xiao Feng Feng, veteran musician Tee Kok Leong, and Malaysia’s leading Chinese jazz diva Winnie Ho, who will evaluate the finalists’ performances.

This year introduces a brand-new award — the “Best Vocal Award”, with Taiwan’s Golden Melody Award winner Ricky Hsiao serving as the performance advisor starting from Episode 4. He has been closely observing each contestant’s singing, stage presence, and emotional expression, and will reveal his choice of the most promising voice during the Grand Final. The award winner will receive RM10,000 in cash and a trophy.

Meanwhile, voting for the “Mah Sing People’s Choice Award” is now open and will close on Saturday, October 4 at 10PM. The winner will take home a trophy and RM8,888 in cash. The Grand Champion of the competition will receive RM30,000 in cash and a trophy, while the Runner-up will walk away with RM20,000 in cash and a trophy.

The star power will be dazzling at this year’s Grand Final. Renowned Hong Kong artiste Nancy Sit will once again be present in Malaysia, serving as the celebrity judge to lend her professional insight on contestants’ talent and stage performance. She will also join Yenz and the Top 8 finalists as a special opening performance guest, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. Rising Malaysian powerhouse vocalist Vic Teo will also appear as a guest performer, adding his soulful voice to the night’s brilliance.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary, Astro has specially prepared a meaningful commemorative showcase. This grand celebration not only crowns a new generation of champions but also brings audiences a warm reunion with past winners and contestants. Familiar faces making surprise appearances include 2012 runner-up Jazz, 2013 runner-up Sharon Wong, 2010 champion Irene Tam, 2015 champion Winnie Ng, 2020 Celebrity Edition champion Chris Cheong, 2021 champion Zheng Zong Xian, and 2024 Junior Category champion Vivian Tham, among others. They will join forces to perform a medley of timeless, classic songs that have touched countless hearts.

These soulful performances will not only awaken the audience’s most treasured musical memories but also fill the Grand Final with a strong sense of nostalgia and touching moments.
