Resorts World Genting is no stranger to hosting numerous international events and this year, the inaugural Genting Sustainbiz F&B Expo will held from 10 to 12 September together with Comexposium, which is poised to be Malaysia’s leading expo on sustainability in the food and beverages industry.

There, RWG’s first B2B Sustainability Expo will give you a chance to network and learn from over 100 leaders in the sustainability industry, gain a global platform for your business, participate in free workshops, and more.

Acting as the emcee and Panel Discussion Moderator will be Freda Liu, a sought-after global speaker, best-selling author, broadcast journalist, emcee, moderator, and trainer.

With close to 10,000 interviews under her belt, she has engaged with thought leaders such as Simon Sinek, Nobel Peace Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank, and Wikileaks' founder Julian Assange.

RWG held a short interview with Freda a few questions on sustainability in general and gained insights from her extensive experience in the field.

Freda said her journey began when she started covering stories on social enterprises way back in 2010. “It's definitely becoming more mainstream. Charity alone does not work, although it’s necessary for some organisations. People, especially the younger generation are more aware of companies and what they are doing. So, we can't greenwash people but [we need to] seriously move in this direction. At the same time, let's applaud companies for doing positive things and not be so quick to judge. Let's be solutions-focused instead.”

At the expo, Freda will act as moderator for some sessions. According to her, food is a big deal. “The latest Global Food Security Index showed that the global food environment has been deteriorating, making it vulnerable to shocks. If we didn't wake up from the pandemic on the issues of food security, that's a scary thought.”

She expressed her hopes that more corporations should take the initiative to bring these challenges to the forefront. “At the same time, Genting Sustainbiz Expo showcases organisations that are taking initiatives in the right direction. From companies like Farm Fresh to Aquina Farms, we can all learn from companies big and small about what they are doing to make a difference.”

Sharing her thoughts on the overview of the Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) movement in Malaysia as a whole, she explained, “It's a way of doing business where it's about people, the planet, and prosperity. People are more aware of the need to be sustainable for future generations.”
