Siti Nurhaliza needs no introduction as one of Malaysia's most influential and award-winning artists. On 10 & 11 August, the songstress made a return to Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting for a two-night concert, ‘Love is in the Sky’. The first day of the concert sold out within an hour, prompting a second date to be added. Many of Siti’s fans, known as SitiZoners, showed up in the theme colours, red, pink, and white.
The curtains first opened with two songs by singer-songwriter Natasha Sass, born to a German father and Malaysian mother who has also opened for Siti previously along with household names such as Bruno Mars and Usher.
The 45-year-old then took to the stage to thunderous applause of an audience totaling over 5,000. The venue was an especially nostalgic one for her as it brought back memories of winning countless awards at the Anugerah Bintang Popular BH (ABPPH). She even sang the song ‘Ku Mahu’, just like she did during the 2007 edition of the awards.
One of the highlights of the night was when Siti brought her 13-year-old niece, Umai, who looks strikingly like her onstage to sing. The young talent recently bagged gold at the 27th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) at Long Beach Performing Arts Center, California. Together, they sang a Mandarin song ‘Zheng Fu’ and an English track, ‘You Are the Reason’.
However, a moment that truly stole the hearts of the audience was when she introduced her six-year-old daughter, Siti Aafiyah and her three-year-old son Muhammad Afwa during a special segment.
The two cuties appeared hand in hand and joined Siti to sing the song ‘Nadi’ from her latest album, Sitism. It was the first time that Siti has ever performed the song live and Aafiyah even played the keyboard onstage. “Aafiyah is learning the piano, so I wanted her to be my ‘backup’…the most special moment for me is when I can be with my children. I had to persuade Aafiyah to come onstage with me.” However, Siti explained that she did plan to influence Aafiyah to pursue the music industry like her.
Amongst the songs she sang were Jerat Percintaan, Satu Cinta Dua Jiwa, Jaga Dia Untukku, Biarlah Rahsia, and Bukan Cinta Biasa. She impressed fans by singing in four languages including Tamil. She even sang a 90s rock number to the amazement of the audience. What a versatile queen!
