Born into simplicity in the Fujian province of China, Lim Goh Tong became the family breadwinner at a young age after the untimely passing of both his father and older brother. Leaving home, he embraced the Malayan's (pre-Malaysia) shores with hope, working as a carpenter while mastering the native language. His journey, marked by determination, laid the foundation for what would become a legacy of greatness.

This was the eureka moment that led him to envision Resorts World Genting on the Ulu Kali Mountain near Kuala Lumpur. The result? A dream that would reshape Malaysia's tourism landscape we know and love today.

3.  Turning Obstacles Into Stepping Stones

Lim Goh Tong was hands-on during the construction of Resorts World Genting.

They say challenges are just opportunities in disguise, and Lim Goh Tong's journey was no exception. Despite facing six (06) near-death experiences during construction and even having to mortgage his properties, he held firm to his vision. He transformed adversity into motivation, shouldering substantial debt and turning obstacles into stepping stones toward his mountainous dream.

With that, the resort officially opened its doors on 8 May 1971.

5.  A Nature Lover At Heart

Preserving the 100-million-year-old rainforest was one of the top priorities during the construction of the resort.

Amidst his achievements, Lim Goh Tong's love for nature shone brightly. His commitment to environmental consciousness ensured that Resorts World Genting's development blended harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Today, the lush greenery and breathtaking scenery are a testament to his unwavering principle.

7.  Philanthropic Ventures

Other than having a dream to develop a world-class resort atop a mountain, Lim Goh Tong firmly believed in giving back. He was empathetic, always putting the needs of others before his and was ever ready to lend a helping hand
